Applied Mathematician / Author
I am coauthor of books exploring mathematical structures revealed through continuum physics. The topics span functional analysis, tensor analysis and differential geometry, the calculus of variations, continuum field theories, and mathematical inequalities.
I belong to a tradition that approaches physical theories not merely as applications of mathematics but as rich sources of mathematical ideas.
I think of myself as a mathematical humanist. My writing has moved naturally across disciplinary boundaries. Rather than staking out an area, I sought a center and a voice.
